Hotel Transylvania is a quirky animated movie, out on DVD and Blu-Ray January 29th, mainly directed toward kids and families with younger aged children. Hotel Transylvania features a huge cast of popular and famous stars, such as Cee-Lo Green, Kevin James, Molly Shannon, Steve Buscemi, Selena Gomez, Adam Sandler, and more!

The plot of Hotel Transylvania is a good one for an animated children's movie, but anybody old enough to have hair on their chest may end up easily bored. NOTE: Plot summary incoming! If you would rather not know the plot before watching the movie, skip the italicized text.

In the aftermath of the death of his wife Martha (Jackie Sandler), Count Dracula (Adam Sandler) designs and builds a massive five-star hotel in which to raise his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez). Famous monsters such as Frank (Kevin James) and his wife Eunice (Fran Drescher), Wayne and Wanda Werewolf (Steve Buscemi and Molly Shannon) and their massive immediate family, Griffin the Invisible Man (David Spade), and Murray the Mummy (Cee Lo Green) often come to stay at the hotel which is completely human free and safe for monsters.

On her 118th birthday, Dracula allows his daughter to leave the castle in order to explore the human world, but he sets up an elaborate plan using his zombie bellhops disguised as humans to make them seem intimidating and frighten her home. The plan works, but the zombies inadvertently lure a human; 21-year-old Jonathan (Andy Samberg) to the hotel. Dracula frantically disguises him as a Flesh Golem and passes him off as Johnnystein, a distant cousin of Frank's right arm. Johnny soon encounters Mavis and the two 'Zing'; a form of magical attraction. Unable to get Johnny out of the hotel without notice, Drac quickly improvises that Johnny is a party planner, brought in to bring a fresher approach to his own traditional and boring parties. Johnny quickly becomes a hit to the other monsters, especially Mavis, and even begins to gain Dracula's respect. He tells Johnny the reason they hate humans was for the death of his wife at the hands of an angry mob shortly after Mavis was born, and is surprised at his understanding and knowledge of the lore.

Johnny attempts to leave after his confession, but is brought back by Mavis. After showing her the beauty of a sunrise, she is re-inspired to give humans another chance. Meanwhile, Quasimodo (John Lovitz) learns that Johnny is a human and kidnaps him in order to cook him but Dracula intervenes and magically freezes Quasimodo to keep him from telling anyone that he is a human. The party is a great success, but when Mavis kisses Johnny, Dracula is sent over the edge and in his outburst confesses to deceiving Mavis with the town. Quasimodo, still frozen, bursts in and The Fly (Chris Parnell) translates his frozen language that reveals Johnny's humanity, but Mavis is undeterred by her attraction and wants to be with Johnny, even though he is human. But Johnny rejects her out of respect for her father and leaves the hotel.

Discovering that Mavis and Johnny shared a Zing, Dracula manages to convince the monsters, who are now trying to leave the hotel, to help him find and reunite them and they learn he is bound on a flight out of Transylvania soon. They head to the airport and encounter a Monster Festival along the way, instead of being frightened by the real monsters appearing, they instead help Dracula by providing him shelter from the sunlight so he can get to the airport quickly only to see Johnny's plane taking off. He takes the risk and gives chase, burning in the sunlight. After getting Johnny's attention, Dracula makes his way to the front of the plane, using his mind-controlling power to control the pilot (Brian Stack) to help him apologize for his actions. Johnny accepts Dracula's apology and Drac manipulates the pilot to return to the Transylvanian airport for a refuel and Dracula returns Johnny to Mavis, who confesses that their Zing was mutual and the two kiss, making Dracula realize his little girl is all grown up and can make her own decisions.

The film ends with Dracula and his friends being shown in traditional animation (in the style of Genndy Tartakovsky's cartoons) during the credits, as well as a few paintings of Johnny and Mavis on their travels together.

Hotel Transylvania currently has a 43% on RottenTomatoes.com, 47% on MetaCritic.com, with a 6.8 user score with personal, non professional reviews. But we don't care about snooty critics!

In the end, Hotel Transylvania is a great movie if you have younger people to watch it. It is not really the kind of movie to go on a hot teenage date with, but is most certainly not a bad choice if you did! The choice characters that voice these lively individuals may seem like a wild choice, but it works out really well. I had never even heard of Cee Lo Green outside of a few songs, so to find him in a movie - which was easy to recognize his voice - was pretty entertaining. You then have other actors and actresses such as Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, David Spade, Fran Drescher... it felt like going back to the 90's with some of these characters!

The animation in this movie seems to get hated on quite a bit, but I found it to be really quite good for what it is. They aren't trying to beat Avatar in terms of how it flows, so I think it's quite wrong for most critics to downplay them on account of such. Both the animation and movie itself remind me quite a lot of the Adventure Time show, so if you have watched that and enjoyed it before, you may enjoy Hotel Transylvania as well!

The overall response of my guests towards the Hotel Transylvania was well taken, but some of the guests did get bored with it. The younger kids loved the movie for sure, it was just the teenagers and older crowd that got bored a little easy with the animation style and clean humor.

If you are really on the edge of whether to get the DVD or Blu-Ray disk or not, give the trailer a watch. As with most movies, the trailer is a really good example of the plot, characters, type of humor, and animation.

Because I was given Hotel Transylvania, through Crowdtap, com, to have a party with, (literally!) I was also given other items to watch and go over. Our party was, as the title suggests, Hotel Transylvania Monster Bowl! We had the party on Super Bowl Sunday. More details of the party and other included activities will be below!

GOODNIGHT MR. FOOT EXCLUSIVE MINI-MOVIE
Goodnight Mr. Foot is an animated short based on the movie, featuring Bigfoot! Taking place before the events in Hotel Transylvania, the short stars Bigfoot, whose rest in Hotel Transylvania is being constantly disturbed by an overly enthusiastic witch maid. It is a funny little short and is available on the DVD and Blu-Ray versions of the movie! You may be able to check it out online, and if so, I would definitely recommend it! It's a very cute mini-movie!

Supplemental Questions!
Boy, that sounds weird. Let's try that again.

Bonus Questions!
1. Mavis makes the cutest little sad bat face to her dad Dracula. Does your little one have a look that just makes you want to do whatever they say? Are there other moments in HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA that were directly relatable to your life?
Definitely! I think everybody has that special somebody who can melt their heart and do their bidding with a quick glance of puppy dog eyes. Or in this case, a "sad little bat face."

There's also that time when a parent realizes their child has fallen in love, and of course, doesn't like that.

Something I just noticed, "bat face" sounds insulting. I am now extremely entertained.

2. Dracula throws an awesome 118th birthday party for Mavis. Were there elements of her party that you wish you could have for your own birthday party or your child’s party? Would you love a monster band, dancing mummies or a travel around the world theme?
I'd love to have my own monster band! By the end of the night everybody had turned into dancing mummies, so we had that covered! A traveling around the world theme sounds like a fantastic idea as well. I'm sure there are a lot of ideas one could find online that have that sort of theme!

3. Both Mavis & Dracula have some awesome vampire powers. For example, they can both turn into bats. Which one of their powers do you wish you could have? Or is there another monster FROM THE FILM who has a power you wish you could have?
I'd love to turn into a bat, or crawl on walls like Mavis. I can think of oh so many uses...

Strictly legal uses, of course!

Most of the time.

Hotel Transylvania Themed Recipes!

Scream Cheese Taco Dip
When you’re not cheering for your team during the Super Bowl, this dip recipe
will surely have you screaming for more!

INGREDIENTS:
2 (8 oz.) pkgs. cream cheese
1 (16 oz.) carton sour cream
1 can bean dip
1 pkg. taco seasoning mix
1 c. grated Cheddar cheese

INSTRUCTIONS:
Soften cream cheese, then add sour cream gradually mixing with mixer. Add bean
dip and taco seasoning. Beat on low speed until well mixed. Put in casserole dish
and top with Cheddar cheese. Cover the casserole and heat in oven at 325 degrees
for 30-45 MINUTES, until heated through. Serve with DORITOS & FRITOS.

What I think about the Scream Cheese Taco Dip: It's yummy! However, if you want to make this yourself, unless you have a REALLY big party or a group of teenagers, you don't need so much! The two packages of cream cheese is a pretty good starting example of how big a dish this makes. It is very good though, I would love to hear about any other dishes like this.

GREEN SLUDGE PUNCH!
This GREEN SLUDGE PUNCH recipe is Dracula’s favorite drink to unwind with
after a long day, aside from, you know, blood. Green Sludge is a great combination
of sour and sweet. Serve in monster themed cups for an added bonus!

INGREDIENTS:
2 (12 fluid ounces) cans frozen limeade concentrate
2 (12 fluid ounces) cans frozen lemonade concentrate
2 (2 liters) bottles lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
2 quarts lime sherbert

INSTRUCTIONS:
In a large pot, combine limeade, lemonade & lemon-lime soda. Mix in lime sherbert
just before serving.

What I think about the Green Sludge Punch: I think... I've made this before! I never used concentrate before, but it worked pretty well in this recipe. Again, unless you're preparing an army for battle, need to fend off a hundred teenagers, or want to impress the president with your punch making skills, you don't need so much. There are a lot of varieties to this recipe; you can likely get off with simply using lemon-lime soda and sherbert.

In our party pack we received valentines day cards, coloring book pages, a calender, and door hangers! I thought these were all really cute; we put a "Party In Progress" door hanger on the front door to our house during the party! I printed out some copies of the calender and gave them out to the kids who attended.

Seeing as this was a Superbowl / Monster Bowl party, we watched the movie and then the Super Bowl right afterward! I planned on writing about how I felt regarding the Superbowl outcome, but remembering how the 49ers failed when they were so close at the two minute mark... well, I think it is best for my sanity that I not mention it all.

The half-time show was pretty good, though! Pretty risque with Beyonce, but we've had worse things bouncing around on live TV before.

However, we did have a bunch of food and drinks! I invited fifteen of my close family and friends, and it was really nice to spend all day with everybody we don't always get a chance to see often. Along with the regular Superbowl snacks, of which we had over twenty bags of chips, we all also enjoyed the Taco Dip and Punch! Watching Hotel Transylvania for some clean humor and then straight into Superbowl screaming not long after was pretty hilarious in itself. Everybody had a blast, and like the characters of Hotel Transylvania, we'll remember it forever!

I would like to thank Crowdtap and the fine people who made Hotel Transylvania for allowing us to watch the movie, enjoy the extra items and ideas, and all-in-all have a great time.

I must say, I really like Five Guys. But is the quality of their food really worth the price hike VS another restaurant such as Burger King? Being honest, one hamburger from Five Guys costs exactly the same as one LARGE pizza from Little Caesars. Now, I don't know about you, but an entire pizza will last me a lot longer than one hamburger.

However, I must also admit, Five Guys make really good burgers and fries. To compare Five Guys to a place like Burger King or McDonald's seems like sin. Five Guys is a mouth full of meat (he he) while McDonald's is the cheap cuts that might subdue the hunger of an eight year old.

Let's compare!

McDonald's

Five Guys

There is a wee bit of a difference.

From the Five Guys website FAQ's
"Five Guys uses 80/20 ground chuck-high quality ground beef containing only steer and heifer meat, which does not include any cow meat or fatty trimmings. We do not use ammoniated procedures to treat our ground beef. This means that there is NO "pink slime" in our burgers. Our beef comes from the percentage of companies that do NOT use these methods."

Unfortunately, I was not able to find McDonald's information on the type of meat they use, only that they recently stopped using "pink slime" in their foods. That is reassuring.

On the other hand, as I pointed out, one hamburger from Five Guys can buy me an entire large pizza from Little Caesars! I could also buy five double cheeseburgers from McDonald's for the same price...

That would likely give me a heart attack, though, so I think I will avoid doing that.

I recently stepped into a local Five Guys the other day after donating blood platelets, wanting to get a quick bite to bring home and rest. I ordered a hamburger and some Cajun fries, because I just love Cajun fries, it isn't often that you get some variety. That is one thing you cannot buy at McDonald's!

There was only one other couple in the restaurant, yet it still took almost 15 minutes to make my hamburger. That seems quite a while when you are thinking in terms of "fast food." One thing about me is that I am extremely patient, though, so I did not mind that much. Moreover, trying to rush might have made my arm explode or something.

When I got home, however, my fries weren't Cajun! Darn! The hamburger was a little soggy as well, but seeing as it took twenty minutes to get home, that is most likely my fault.

I really enjoy Five Guys, but when they cost $5 or more for one burger, plus $4 to $5 for fries, it is to be expected that they put a little rush into getting it out timely and correctly. I have been to a few different Five Guys locations, and they all seem to be about the same in terms of price and time.

If you really want to stretch your dollar at Five Guys, consider buying a discount/used gift card online. From a quick browse, I found some for 7% off, so if you can plan a few days in advance, you can be able to save a few bucks.

I think Five Guys is high for what they serve, but I also think what they serve is a lot better than other fast food items you can get elsewhere. In the end, fast food is fast food, you pay that little extra for what you believe to be good food and the convenience of not having to cook and dirty your own dishes.

The Zicam® Rapid Melts® are a nickel sized tablet taken by mouth which can drastically reduce a cold. The Zicam® Rapid Melts® are non-drowsy, non-habit forming, no known drug interactions, and dissolve quickly without water.

Zicam® Rapid Melts®  are Homeopathic - Homeopathy is a system of medicine which involves treating the individual with highly diluted substances, given mainly in tablet form, with the aim of triggering the body’s natural system of healing.

You take these tablets by mouth at the first sign of a cold, and continue to use them for around 48 hours after the symptoms subside. For adults, take one tablet (do NOT chew – trust me…) and take about every three hours until symptoms are gone. To be honest, I think every three hours is excessive; you will go through a box in no time like that. I would recommend every six hours, but if you are feeling terrible then it might be worth it to do as the directions say. Do not take these on an empty stomach if you can avoid it; and do not eat or drink for 15 minutes after use. It will not taste good. For anybody under the age of 12, consult your doctor first.

The taste was surprisingly not medicine like, reminding me of the old Flintstones vitamins I took as a kid. The melt time took almost exactly two minutes; the texture when you put it in your mouth is odd, but not too terrible. They have a similar texture and taste to Tums, only you do not chew these. In flavor, the Zicam® Rapid Melts® are not nearly as bad as other drugs like Benadryl or Nyquil – at least, not the one I was given to sample (Cherry flavor.)

I was given six boxes to sample and give to friends, and they were all really glad to get these. Thankfully only a couple really badly needed them, and they were more than happy to have these on hand, saying they really did seem to help their cold symptoms become shorter and less of a pain.

There is two forms of the Rapid Melts; original (unmarked) and Ultra. The original form comes in Citrus, Cherry, and Lemon-Lime with Echinacea. The Ultra form comes in Cherry and Orange Cream. The Original form comes in boxes of 25 for $10.99-12.29, and the Ultra ones come in boxes of 18 for the same price.

So, would I recommend it? Yes, I would! The Zicam® Rapid Melts® provide a non-drowsy way of eliminating your cold without having to take disgusting syrup. The only downsides I see is that the Zicam® Rapid Melts® are about two to three times as much as a regular bottle of cold syrup; and the recommended dose of one tablet every three hours seems excessive. If you are going to take these every three hours, they will only last you a few days. Then again, maybe that’s all you’ll need!

This past December Crowdtap put out a Sample and Share involving Healthy Choice Baked Entrées, giving participants a $1.00 off coupon, which was roughly half off the retail price. To be honest, this was extremely disappointing. I am also involved in the Zycam Sample and Share and in this I recieved SIX entire boxes to share! This felt extremely cheap of (I assume) Healthy Choice; I can get a $1.00 off coupon anywhere, this is hardly considerable of being called a sample and share.

Nonetheless, I downloaded my $1.00 off coupon, sent out a bunch of coupons to friends, and went to the stores to buy some different kinds of the Healthy Choice Baked Entrées. I originally planned to do a video review, however, because of unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to... The Zycam review WILL be a full-fledged video review. Below are the five Entrées that I selected.

Chicken and Rice Cheddar Bake
Rating: 4/5
Main ingredients: Chicken, Cheeses, and Rice.
Thoughts: This is definitely the bread winner of the pack, maybe I should have saved this for last. The cheese and chicken were cooked very well, although the amount of chicken was disappointing. The cheeses were “okay,” but take this with a grain of salt as I don’t like cheese, typically. Speaking of salt, this entrée has 600mg of sodium, which is between the realm of “that’s not bad” and “damn!” Had there been more chicken this would have gotten a perfect score.

Roasted Chicken and Potatoes
Rating: 4/5
Main ingredients: Chicken, and Potatoes. Although the website doesn’t seem to boast that it features potatoes in a “Chicken and Potatoes” dish.
Thoughts: Not much to say about this, actually. It tastes good, which is about it. The potatoes have saved themselves from turning into that terrible jelly consistency these type of potatoes typically get to, and the chicken is pretty yummy too. Sodium is at 560mg, less than the previous entrée.

Lasagna with Meat Sauce
Rating: 2/5
Main ingredients: Beef, Cheese, and Pasta. And “meat sauce,” presumably.
Thoughts: I really disliked this one. The “meat sauce” was watery, the pasta tasteless, and entire thing had that “jelly”-ness to it with a Hot Pocket “how long do I cook this without setting my tongue on fire?” appeal. How disappointing. On the plus side, only 380mg of sodium.

Fettuccini Alfredo Bake
Rating: What on earth is that in my Alfredo? (IE 2/5)
Main ingredients: Cheese and Pasta. And some weird bread things semi crushed up.
Thoughts: I had high hopes for this entrée, and was fairly let down. This type of cuisine is always my favorite, so maybe I’m a little prejudiced here. The pasta was semi tasteless; maybe they are like that with all of their pasta. The sauce certainly redeems the pasta, but could use more seasoning. The broccoli is not too bad, still maintaining most (most…) of its “snap.”

Four Cheese Ziti Marinara
Rating: 4/5
Main ingredients: Cheese, and Pasta.
Thoughts: Ah, ending on a good note! This tasted a lot better than most ziti’s, the pasta seemed well flavorful and the sauces pretty good. The tomato sauce still seemed a little watery, but not nearly as bad as before. There was a good amount of seasoning in it, but could have used some more.

In the end, Healthy Choice Baked Entrées are pretty good. These are definitely not for somebody trying to save money, definitely not for somebody expecting a five star cuisine dish, but certainly good enough for a quick “healthy” meal that you can make in a couple minutes. Things like this should definitely not be used in place of actually cooking food, because, if you can, the food you would cook yourself would be far healthier than these items.

Comments from friends… not really any, unfortunately. I think most were put off that I gave them coupons for a dollar off, instead of coupons that would have eliminated the cost. Some had already tried them before, liked them, and I assume that they will buy their favorite kind and stick with that. Maybe if Healthy Choice had given away a higher dollar off coupon they would try more variety of these meals. Thanks again to Crowdtap and Healthy Choice for the ability to try out a few different kinds of healthy frozen meals. If you would like to read more about the different types of meals, go to www.healthychoice.com or here for the baked entrées including all nutrition information and reviews from other people.

First off, a great big shout out to Crowdtap.com! Through Crowdtap and Funcom I was given The Secret World to review for one month and host a party inviting friends to come over and play The Secret World after I had learned the ropes and could show them all the awesome and amazing things in the game. Here is my review of the game and  recap of the party! Originally I was just going to piece together all of the blogs I created about TSW but it was easier to simply write anew.

The Secret World is a dark fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing PC game set in the "modern day real world" with over 500 areas to explore. When you start up the game, you will get the choice of one of three factions: the Templars, Illuminati, or Dragon. Factions will have their own intro video for you to watch and help persuade you toward their faction. I think the intro videos are really interesting and a much better step up from the simple text description of differences between factions.

Here is the best description of the factions I've seen but I strongly recommend also watching the videos!

TEMPLARS; The old guard; suave and sophisticated, but fiercely brutal and uncompromising in their crusade against darkness. The Temp lars are the lions of the modern world. When they roar, everyone listens. Headquartered in London, hailing from a royal lineage, Templars are a loyal network of strong-headed warriors.

ILLUMINATI; Invisible puppet-masters and corporate manipulators, Illuminati crave power and wealth by any means necessary. Deep beneath the streets of Brooklyn, NY, they ruthlessly plot for the New World Order. Their arsenal is the ambition of a new media startup, the rhetoric of a congressman and a mogul’s business sense. Working hard, playing hard and fighting dirty.

DRAGON; Amorphous instigators of change and breeders of chaos. To an outsider, Dragon’s strategies are mysterious, incomprehensible, and patternless. From a nameless district of Seoul, Korea, they silently plant seeds of change and apply acupuncture to a paralysed planet. Chaos brings change, and we need change.

When you choose the faction, you get to choose your name and design your character. The character naming is a bit annoying, I had to try about 10-15 different combinations for a nickname (mandatory) before I could play – How is this going to fare in the future when there are so many more players and taken nicknames? The character design is very in depth, but not quite at first. When you first design your character you are given rather basic choices, it’s not quite to Saints Row 3 in depth, but much more detailed than most games. You can buy extra clothes and items later on and as you play.

Characters are extremely in depth from what I have witnessed and have their own quirks and “special” things about them. Each character is widely different, from the “crazy scientist” to the small town cop, each one has his or her own backstory and emotion in the story that is able to draw you in and entertain you.

While at first you will only have basic questions to ask people you meet, they still have a large amount of dialog options. This really shows that Funcom has put a good bit of effort into their characters instead of slapping the general “who are you” and “what is this place?” options commonly found in games.

If you are new to MMO’s, like I was before I first played this game, you should not fret! The game has tutorial videos on pretty much every possible thing. From constructing items, character building and abilities, to everything in-between, I feel as if the Secret World could be related to Apple and say “there’s a video for that.”

The story of The Secret World is based upon “magic, myths, conspiracies and dark horrors,” and the developers have made it quite clear, as shown in the following video, that they have put a great deal of research into their game. From zombies, mummies, to indescribable creatures, each and every one has a story or research of some sort.

Although I have not played an MMO before, the gameplay mechanics feel like a general MMO or RPGgame. If I had to relate it to anything, I would say it is similar to the PC version of Mass Effect, where you have your abilities and such at the bottom of the screen. There are hundreds of abilities – both passive and active, that drastically change how your character performs in the game. Some will give you an instant boost if you are hit with a certain condition, and others will blast away enemies with AOE attacks.

The leveling system in TSW is a bad choice of words, as you do not actually “level.”  As you gain XP you are granted AP and SP points, both of which go toward advancing your character. AP points are used for purchasing skills and abilities, while SP points advance what your character can do such as equipping new weapons and items.

An unfortunate thing of the gameplay is what I call “backtracking,” not to be confused with having to go back to previous locations where you have already been, but the act of attacking an enemy and then simply holding the key to go backwards while you fire at them. This is reduced greatly when you have multiple people attacking an enemy, but when you are starting out or if you decide to play alone, this is an incredibly annoying event that happens with every enemy you decide to go after. When you have a party with you it is no big deal, but when you are by yourself this can – and often will, turn ugly, trapping you in the corner of a room or against a wall to die a horrible and inescapable death.

This brings me to a gripe that really bugs me about the unfortunate but inevitable event known as dying: “Anima wells,” also known as respawn points. These things come about occasionally and provide a “close” area for you to spawn at when you die.  (But only when you have discovered them already.)

When you die, you get to choose one of the spawn points that you have discovered and when you spawn at an Anima well you have the choice of indeed spawning there or running off like an idiot. As you can likely tell from my choice of words, I have chosen the “running off like an idiot” option at least once. While entertaining, and giving you an interesting view of the world (you cannot die when you do this, but also cannot attack) you also cannot do anything else. When or if you decide to run off, the only way to get back into the game is to find wherever in the giant earth your spawn point was. You can also quit and go back into the game, but when I tried to do this… I could not quit! I had to tab out of my game and end TSW just to exit my game. Minus ten points to Gryffindor!

The map is actually very useful and can show you where places, people, and objectives are anywhere in the world you are in. Since, you know, that is what maps typically do.

There is no doubt you will need to use the map at some point, although in some areas the map is as useful as James Sunderland’s crayon drawings.

Yup. That is super useful.

Moving on, dungeons and general areas where you need to be “sneaky” are actually interesting. They are not exactly difficult, but quite a bit different from everywhere else. For a moment, it felt like I was playing a weird Metal Gear Solid as I was avoiding motion detector lights. In fact, I would not be surprised if they got their inspiration for these parts from the MGS games.

For those wondering, “Should I buy this game for my kids?” the answer is a wholeheartedly NO. PLEASE DO NOT, NO. This game is rated M for a reason! While there is no nudity (that I have seen,) there is a LARGE amount of sexual content (including gay scenes for those especially bothered by such), religious innuendo, drug and alcohol use, and death/suicide. If you are okay with your kid seeing all this, why even ask?

The sexual content is not overwhelming – you can certainly play this game in a room with other adults, but if there are parents or children around I strongly err on the side of caution when playing this. There is a multitude of skimpy outfits you and others can wear and a great deal of sexual talk and suggestive poses.

As for religious innuendo, there are multiple locations in TSW with churches and pamphlets for religious sanctions. There are also persons that give “readings,” such as fortune telling. If the thought of you or your kids being persuaded by fake digital religious readings easily offend you, continue on.

Drug and alcohol use is in abundance in some areas, but it really is not a big deal. References to drugs are more common and you will occasionally see a user smoking “something funny” or drinking alcohol.

To conclude this “warning” I will talk about the deaths and suicides in this game, which really should not need to be mentioned. You cannot be a pacifist in this game! You must kill enemies - whether they are zombies, mummies, vampires, disfigured creatures, or other members, you do not have the option of “letting them live.” Suicide is also present in the game but more subtle, in the case of Kingsmouth, you are met with some persons who have decided the zombie apocalypse has become too much to handle and have bit the bullet. If suicide bothers you then you may want to avoid these missions.

If you ever decide your character is looking a little dull, give him or her a makeover! There is a nearly unlimited amount of styling options you can give your characters through the in game character wardrobe or through buying items with Funcom points (explained next!)

Funcom points are points that can be used to buy special items using real money. The items you can buy can be pets, clothes, accessories, or titles that can wildly change how your character appears in the game. Funcom points start at 600 points for $5.00.

Now, I must admit that I am a very frugal person and I find Funcom points to be much like Microsoft points that “trick” you into not knowing how much you are spending when you purchase an item. When you purchase, and I’ll use an actual example from the Funcom store, the “bare thigh leather pants” for 600 points, you are effectively paying $5.00 to add only one visual item to your character.

All items purchased in the Funcom store are also character limited, meaning that if you buy your clothes for one character, it is impossible to then change characters in the future and bring your items along with you. Now, because I do not want to derail this review I will simply say that I find charging your customers so much for a visual item bad, but when you cannot even move the items between characters is even worse.

Once you get in the game, it looks absolutely amazing which actually surprised me a great deal. I was expecting ugly graphics, thinking an MMO would be the least likely place to have good graphics, but was pleasantly surprised.

However I will admit there are indeed some areas that look bad, but nearly all of these areas are in the cutscenes. Not only do the cutscenes look bad in quality, but also on a widescreen monitor as they end up with a giant black bar at the top and bottom of the video.

The friends and foes of the game also look really well made, even if they are sometimes a giant fat sewer monster.

Pros:
  • Game looks really good during gameplay
  • Good, extremely deep character dialog most of the time
  • Character customization is extremely customizable
  • An overabundance of missions – with more and more being added all the time
  • Maps are full of players to interact with
  • Play at your own pace
  • Countless types of enemies and areas to explore
Cons:
  • Game looks bad during cutscenes, being stretched out and in general not very pleasing
  • No cutscene subtitles. Sorry deaf people!  I realize this may not be an important thing for the developers, but for those of us who are deaf or hard of hearing this can really influence how much we play a game
  • No options to sort inventory by type (weapon, consumable) would be fantastic
  • No multi faction cabals – if you want to join a cabal, you’re going to have to be in the same faction
  • If you are planning to play this game by yourself you may run into difficulties
Suggestions:
  • Add subtitle support
  • Add "time said" for chat - like any chat program
  • Single player parties have more effect on enemies
  • Multi faction cabals (we can all work together in some cases!)
  • Perhaps change spawn points to be more like Battlefield where you select them from a map?

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. However, this does not mean I will stop playing the game! This review has only scratched the surface of The Secret World, as I continue to play I will also continue to talk about it and post more.

In our party, as always, we had cookies! To make them The Secret World inspired I put TSW on each of the cookies with the color of each faction. (Blue, red, and green)

The party was awesome and I'm sure that everybody who came to play is going to buy the game in the near future! We all got to play around with the game, mainly exploring but also doing a few quests and mindless zombie killing. This review was created in collaboration with everybody that came to the party, we all talked about the positives and negatives of the game along with what was fun and what wasn't. In the end everybody really enjoyed the game and everybody who wasn't already a fan of playing MMO type games are now really interested in them. I made sure to mention that TSW is on sale at the moment... so I'm sure I'll see some friendly faces in the game very soon!

Everybody got to play but not everybody was around when we did the Two Minute Zombie Challenge, but everybody basically got half an hour each to play however they wanted during the party. I've also got a couple guests that want to come back at a later date and play some more. :)
